Advanced Certificate Programs
Advanced Certificates at Teachers College are non-degree, credit bearing programs that give participants the opportunity to complete graduate-level coursework and develop specialized knowledge and competencies. Some Advanced Certificates may be completed entirely online, while other programs take place at TC's New York City campus.
The Advanced Certificate in Adult Learning and Leadership for Medical Educators is designed for forward-thinking medical educators looking to elevate their instructional and leadership skills. The program focuses on advancing knowledge and mastery in critical areas for medical educators, including adult learning, leadership, facilitation, innovative learning and applied research methodologies. (10 credits)
The Advanced Certificate in Bilingual Speech-Language Pathology equips bilingual speech-language pathologists with the specialized knowledge and clinical skills needed to provide culturally and linguistically appropriate services to children and adolescents. Offered online and in-person, this program leads to certification from the New York State Education Department. (6 credits)
The Advanced Certificate in Bilingual/Bicultural Education prepares educators to promote multilingualism through the exploration of issues surrounding learning and teaching in more than one language. This program is for students who are pursuing a master’s degree and initial certification in another program, or non-degree students who already have teacher certification. (15-16 credits)
The Advanced Certificate in College Advising enables participants to deepen their understanding and gain specialized training in college advisement. The program is open to students who are pursuing a school counseling degree, professional school counselors, or other professionals who work in college advisement and access. The program is offered online or in-person, and requires a semester long internship. (12 credits)
The Advanced Certificate in Cooperation and Conflict Resolution is a unique learning opportunity for individuals who want to develop their conflict resolution skills in collaborative negotiation and mediation. In addition to coursework, this program requires a semester-long internship. (16-18 credits)
The Advanced Certificate in Creative Technologies explores and strengthens the relationship between art, technology, and education. The program prepares artists and art teachers to blend digital tools and creative materials in multi- and cross-disciplinary, collaborative, and playful pedagogies. The certificate is approved by New York State. (15 credits)
The Advanced Certificate in Advanced Diabetes Topics enables clinically prepared individuals who already hold a master's degree or higher to deepen their knowledge and develop strategies for working with individuals who have diabetes. The program is offered entirely online, and includes five core diabetes courses from the Master of Science program. (16 credits)
The Advanced Certificate in Nursing Education is designed for nurses with doctorates who want to become more effective educators. This online program prepares nurses to draw upon their advanced clinical or research expertise to educate new nurses and advanced practitioners. (15 credits)
The 15-credit Reading Advanced Certificate is designed to promote effective instruction in critically important reading skills. It will prepare teachers not only to understand the reading process but to provide useful interventions, thus improving educational practice and removing barriers to learning.
The Advanced Certificate in Sexuality, Women, and Gender develops the competencies needed to enhance the well-being of LGBTQ individuals and women. This program is the first of its kind approved by New York State. In addition to coursework, this certificate requires a research project and a semester-long volunteer/service experience. (15 credits)
