Responding to President Trump’s proposal to arm teachers as a way to prevent school shootings, TC’s Lalitha Vasudevan, Professor of Technology and Education, told ABC.com that “it's not a good idea.” She said there is “ample” scientific evidence that increasing the number of firearms in schools “does not increase safety and does increase incidents of injury and violence rather than decrease them.”

Vasudevan co-authored an opinion piece with colleagues Sonali Rajan, Assistant Professor of Health Education; and John Allegrante, Professor of Health Education; which argues that “[r]educing the ease of access to guns – especially highly lethal military assault weapons such as the AR15 semi-automatic rifle – is a critical first step” to stopping gun violence in schools.
