A grant for $300,000 to support the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media has been awarded to Teachers College by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

A grant for $300,000 to support the Hechinger Institute on Education and the Media has been awarded to Teachers College by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

The Institute is named to honor the memory of Fred M. Hechinger, who was a senior advisor to Carnegie until his death in November 1995.

Hechinger was also the former education editor and member of the editorial board of The New York Times.

He received a TC Distinguished Medal for Education in 1991 and became a TC Trustee in 1993.

The Hechinger Institute will offer services to reporters, editors and producers who cover education, as well as educators who deal with the media.

The Institute's activities are scheduled to begin next summer.

The Institute is also supported by grants from the William T. Grant Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the TC Trustees.
