The New York Times features Rev. Desmond M. Tutu accepting TC Medal for Distinguished Service
Rev. Desmond M. Tutu, archbishop emeritus of Capetown, winner of the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize and chairman of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, accepted the Teachers College Medal for Distinguished Service at the Master’s Convocation at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.
Rev. Desmond M. Tutu, archbishop emeritus of Capetown, winner of the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize and chairman of South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, accepted the Teachers College Medal for Distinguished Service at the Master's Convocation at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine.
Relating his own experiences as a student in South Africa during apartheid, Rev. Tutu commented, "We could have wallowed in self-pity," he said. "But we didn't. We had some wonderful teachers who filled us with a great deal of exhilaration."
The article, entitled "Tutu Is Awarded Medal in Ceremony at Cathedral" appeared in the May 21st edition of The New York Times.
