Strategies for Dealing with Remediation in Community Colleges

Professor Dolores Perin will present "Strategies for Dealing with Remediation in Community Colleges," at the National Dissemination Center for Career and Technical Education from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. EST on November 05, 2003. This is a webcast accessible at http://www.nccte.org/ .

The presentation will draw on findings from recent studies at the Community College Research Center funded by the Sloan Foundation. Prof. Perin will provide information about the need for academic skills instruction in community colleges, assessment and placement policy, the nature of developmental education, and approaches for remediation beyond developmental education such as the use of academic learning centers and writing-across-the-curriculum. Specific recommendations for remedial policy and practice will be offered. The presentation lasts 45 minutes. Viewers may transmit questions electronically - these questions will be answered in a 30 minute Q&A period after the presentation.
