The Texarkana Regional Arts and Humanities Council's ArtsSmart Institute for Learning was awarded $75,000 on July 7 by the Sid W. Richardson Foundation of Fort Worth, Texas.

ArtsSmart was awarded the grant based on the foundation's regard that its program is one of the most innovative and successful in its endeavor to bring the arts back into the schools and lives of young people. The 6-Step Model consists of planning, modeling, practice, evidence, reflection, follow-up and sharing.

The ArtsSmart 6-Step Model for Teacher Development is based on research by Dr. Rob Horowitz of Columbia Teachers College in New York. It promotes the training and professional development of teachers who learn to replicate the methods of the model and share it with students and other teachers.
