Gabriela Simon-Cereijido (M.S., 2000) has been awarded the Trailblazer Award of the Latino Alumni Association of Columbia University, LAACU. The Trailblazer Award recognizes outstanding Columbia University Latino alumni who have demonstrated courage, initiative, motivation, risk-taking and leadership in their professional endeavor. Born and raised in Buenos Aires, Simon-Cereijido earned a B.S. from Columbia and an M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology from TC in 2000. Now working toward a Ph.D. in the joint Language and Communicative Disorders program at the University of California, San Diego and San Diego State University, Simon-Cereijido has received three consecutive Minority Biomedical Research Support Program grants, funded by the National Institute of General Medical Sciences at the National Institutes of Health. She has presented her theories on bilingual language development and assessment at professional conferences around the world, and she has been published in several peer-reviewed scientific journals, including three co-authored articles in The Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research.
