Macy Gallery to Showcase Latin American Art
The exhibition, mounted in collaboration with TC's Association of Latin American Students, will feature artists from Mexico, Agentina, Chile, Puerto Rico and Spain.
In addition to the exhibition, which runs from June 9 to 19, the gallery will sponsor a screening of the Mexican documentary "De Nadie" and workshops for K-8 students and educators on mathematics teaching and learning through art. The exhibition is curated by alumnus Marcelo De Stefano and TC student Javier Iturralde de Bracamonte.
The exhibition, titled "From Latin America," features the work of artists Havi Schanz (Argentina), Sofia Molina (Chile), Joel Vicente Flores Quiroz (Mexico), Guadalupe Victorica (Mexico), Marcelo De Stefano (Argentina), José Antonio Vargas (Puerto Rico), Elena Bouza (Spain), and TC Assistant Professor Olga Hubard (Mexico),
The opening reception will take place on June 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Macy Gallery, 525 West 120th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam) on the fourth floor of Macy Hall. The gallery hours are Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
ALAS was founded at TC in 2002 and organizes a wide range of activities, including an annual research conference on Latin America education, social and cultural events, symposia, and workshop.
The screening of the documentary, directed by Tin Dirdamal, chronicles the plight of Central American immigrants as they journey to the United States in search of a better life.
