Dance Educator

JODY GOTTFRIED ARNHOLD (M.A. '73)

Jody is the founder of of the Dance Education Lab at New York City's 92nd Street Y, where she also serves as  Chairman of the Y's Dance Center Task Force and as a member of the Y's Board. Since 1995, she also has served as Chairman of the Board of Ballet Hispanico, which during her tenure has doubled in size, commissioning 19 new words for the company's repertory and building a substantial scholarship program for the School of Dance. Arnhold is Co-Chair for the creation of the New York City Department of Education Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Dance Grades PreK-12. A former teacher, she has vowed to place a certified dance teacher in every public school in New York City.

Arnhold received the 2008 Spotlight in Dance Education Award presented by the New York City Department of Education. She also received the Irmy Award for Dance Education from the Laban Institute of Movement Studies and the Visionary Award from the National Dance Education Organization.  Arnhold also received Teachers College's 2013 Distinguished Alumni Award.
