125th Anniversary Scholarship Awards Available for Spring 2014

TC President Susan Fuhrman has announced the new 125th Anniversary Scholarship, establish with funds raised through through the College's benefit gala at the Apollo Theater in November.

Teachers College President Susan Fuhrman has announced the new 125th Anniversary Scholarship, which was established with funds raised through the College’s benefit gala at the Apollo Theater in November.

The 125th Anniversary Scholarship will be in the form of a one-time award of $10,000. The first round of scholarships will be granted for spring 2014 semester, with the next round to be awarded for the 2014-15 academic year.

Increasing financial support for students is the largest funding goal of TC’s $300 million campaign: Where the Future Comes First: The Campaign for Teachers College. The campaign will seek to raise $110 million for scholarships and fellowships so that TC’s talented students can pursue careers that make a positive difference in the world free of the burden of debt.

“That evening at the gala we sent the message loud and clear that TC students deserve our strong support to pursue their dreams,” Fuhrman wrote in an email to the TC community. “I strongly encourage eligible students to apply for the 125th Anniversary Scholarship.”

The gala raised $1.4 million for student support, the majority of which ($900,000) can distributed through the new scholarship beginning in the current semester and continuing over the next three academic years.

Continuing master’s and doctoral students are eligible to apply. Scholarship recipients will be evaluated based on academic merit, satisfactory academic progress and financial need.

To be considered for awards for spring 2014, students must apply by March 13, 2014. For the 2014-2015 academic year, students must express interest by May 2.

Scholarships for next year will be awarded by May 15, 2014, with notification before the end of spring semester.
