The Ming Yuan Education Foundation was founded in China in 1998 to encourage young scholars engaged in educational research.

In 2015, the Foundation added a new international category to the “Mingyuan Education Prize”, the “Outstanding Contribution to Chinese Education Research Award.”  This award recognizes international education researchers who make long-term contributions to Chinese education.

The Ming Yuan Education Foundation acknowledged Professor Levin as one of the "most influential education economists worldwide," who has made "a special and outstanding contribution to China in terms of both research and teaching."

Professor Levin will be recognized at a ceremony to be held in November.
