Revised University Gender-Based Misconduct Policy for Students, Sept. 1, 2015

To the TC Community:

Late last week, Columbia University announced updates to the University’s Gender-Based Misconduct Policy for Students.  This policy applies to Teachers College as well as the other Columbia schools. The Policy has been revised to streamline certain procedures, to reflect input from those who participated in the process last year, and to incorporate requirements from a new state law that applies to all New York colleges and universities.  I encourage you to read the summary of updates and review the policy.

Teachers College remains committed to providing assistance to students in need and ensuring that our efforts to prevent and respond to sexual assault and other forms of gender-based misconduct are fair for all involved.   Existing Teachers College efforts to address gender-based misconduct continue to be led by Vice President for Diversity and Community AffairsJanice Robinson, who also serves as TC's Title IX Coordinator. Please contact her if you have questions or concerns about the new policy and enhanced program required both by legal guidance and by our institutional commitment to preventing and responding to sexual assault and other forms of gender-based misconduct.

The safety, security and well-being of our students are of paramount importance to everyone at TC.  Let us all join together to renew this commitment in the coming academic year.

The current version of the University Gender-Based Misconduct Policy can be found in TC's Policy Library, www.tc.edu/policylibrary, which also contains TC's Policy on Protection from Harassment.  This latter policy addresses all forms of discriminatory harassment and all members of the TC community; revisions responding to the newly promulgated New York law will be posted in the near future.
