TC’s Jeanne Brooks-Gunn will testify before the Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday, March 16 at 10 a.m. in Room 2358-C, Rayburn House Office Building, Washington, D.C. The title of the session is "Investing in the Future: Early Childhood Education Programs at the Department of Health and Human Services."

Brooks-Gunn will testify at the hearing in along with Steven Dow, Executive Director, CAP Tulsa; Jennifer Garner, Trustee, Save the Children; and Don Millican, Spokesman, George Kaiser Family Foundation.

Brooks-Gunn is the Virginia and Leonard Marx Professor of Child Development at Teachers College and the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University and Co-Director of the National Center for Children and Families at Teachers College. She is a national expert on early childhood education and the federal Head Start program for preschool children.

Brooks-Gunn’s research focuses on family and community influences upon the development of children and youth and the consequences of growing up in poverty. She designs and evaluates interventions aimed at enhancing the lives of children and youth, including home visiting programs for pregnant women and new mothers, early childhood education programs for toddlers and preschoolers, two-generation programs for young children and their parents, and after-school programs for older children.
