Dear Friends,

As I prepare to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, I feel especially grateful for the privilege of serving Teachers College, and working with you to make this eminent institution an ever more powerful force for the advancement of teaching, research, practice, public service, and career goals that contribute to the betterment of society.

Last year at this time, I was still pretty new on the job and just getting to know most of you as I preparing for my investiture as TC’s 11th president. Having now immersed myself in the life of the College for 17 months, I have come to deeply appreciate not only the intellectual energy and richness that abound here, but also the unwavering dedication to excellence and service of everyone who teaches, studies, and works at TC.

Because of you, I believe that TC already is an outstanding institution, and am excited about our progress toward making sure everyone has access to the guidance, incentives, and support needed to reach one’s full potential for excellence and achievement.

During my first State of the College address last week, I shared plans for making the many areas of excellence at TC the standard for all of Teachers College. I hope you will read or listen to my remarks, and I welcome your feedback and suggestions.

I also hope you will take time for yourselves to enjoy the company of family and friends, and to reflect on what and whom matter most in your lives. Even after we all return from the break, we all should strive to keep the spirit of Thanksgiving alive as we go about our work by treating one another with dignity, respect, warmth, and even a kindhearted sense of humor.

I wish you a joyous and safe holiday season, and look forward to working and learning together in the weeks and months ahead.

Sincerely,

Thomas Bailey
President
