Dear TC Community,

We wanted you to be aware of President Trump’s recently issued executive order, scheduled to go into effect on February 22, that places restrictions on travel and permanent immigration to the United States by people from by people from Nigeria, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Myanmar, Sudan and Tanzania.

Students and scholars currently in the U.S. are not affected by the new restrictions, and students, tourists, and foreign workers from these countries can still travel to the US on temporary visas.

As an academic institution committed to the advancement of knowledge and free exchange of ideas across national boundaries, Teachers College views travel restrictions on law-abiding students and scholars from other countries as deeply troubling. We nonetheless strongly advise students, visiting scholars, or community members who are citizens of any of the affected countries to contact our Office of International Students and Scholars at, or 212.678.3939. They can also visit the NAFSA (Association of International Educators) site for updates, detailed information, answers to FAQs, and resources.

We also urge members of our community to read this message from Suzanne B. Goldberg, Executive Vice President for University Life at Columbia University.
