Dear members of the Teachers College community,

We are writing to further update you on our plans given the continued spread of the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Our ongoing goal is to serve our educational mission while taking all prudent measures to minimize risk.

Some of the approaches we are taking to minimize the risk of exposure include:

  • We have adapted our facilities operations to ensure that we are cleaning all areas of the College as thoroughly and frequently as is possible.
  • We are encouraging all members of our community to follow preventative hygiene practices such as frequent hand-washing.
  • We have asked all faculty, staff, and students to avoid unnecessary international travel.
  • We are reminding everyone to please stay home if they are feeling at all unwell, and for faculty to be understanding and flexible with students should they need to attend class remotely.

We are now also asking that nonessential events on campus through the end of Spring Break (March 22) be postponed or cancelled. We understand that this may be disappointing, and we will review the recommendation as further information becomes available from the Centers for Disease Control, the Department of Health, and other expert bodies.

As always, I urge everyone to treat all members of our community and beyond with civility and respect. During this challenging time, it is paramount for us to support one another.

President Thomas Bailey
