The Office of External Affairs promotes and protects Teachers College’s global reputation as a preeminent research and teaching institution committed to bettering the lives of all human beings and advancing the public good. We project TC’s excellence, influence, and impact through multiple media and enterprises, including: the College’s digital and print publications and resources; outreach to public officials and community organizations; engagement with print, broadcast, and social media; promotion of College events; and the provision of creative services for the TC community.
Focusing on innovative programs and research that generate new ideas and prepare great future scholars, educators, and leaders in education, health, and psychology, we show how the College’s faculty, students, alumni and staff help to strengthen families, schools, organizations and communities and improve human health.
We produce and promote TC’s online Newsroom, e-newsletters and e-communications, video and multimedia; and manage the College’s social media accounts, digital signage and online events listings.
We oversee the design and functionality of the TC website, improve the user experience for our visitors and site managers, and help academic departments and administrative offices enhance and manage their web presence.
We produce print and digital publications and news and help develop commentary and public presentations that showcase TC’s world-class research, programs and people and the College’s impact.
We work with external media and the TC community to raise the visibility of the College’s people, research and programs with the general public, as well as with key stakeholders, influencers, and more specialized audiences.
We steward TC’s brand and offer tools and guidelines that promote a unified institutional identity.
We offer guidance and support on the promotion of College events.
We advance TC’s objectives by managing relationships with government leaders and other public officials, by advocating for legislation and policies that align with the College’s mission and priorities, and by supporting community engagement efforts.
Disclaimer: To reporters and all representatives of the media: Teachers College is affiliated with Columbia University but stands as a legally separate entity, with its own Board of Trustees, President and rules of governance. Given these understandably complex facts about the historic relationship between the College and the University, it is more accurate for news stories to reflect the fact that actions taken by Teachers College or its officials are not synonymous with those of the University with which we are affiliated.
