TC Graduate Writing Center

The Teachers College Graduate Writing Center provides both one-on-one consultations as well as writing workshops to help TC students become better writers. Issues such as organization, clarity, and documentation are covered. Services are available for fee. Note that the Writing Center does not provide direct editing of papers or other coursework. For more information, go to the Writing Center website.

American Language Program at Columbia University

Students who wish to undertake intensive English-language preparation either before or during studies at Teachers College may wish to investigate courses provided by Columbia University's American Language Program (ALP). The American Language Program offers instruction by trained professionals in a variety of areas, including written and spoken English. For more information about course options and fees, go to http://www.ce.columbia.edu/alp.

Community English Program (CEP) at Teachers College

The Community English Program at Teachers College is staffed by students in TC's TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). CEP provides language instruction to members of New York City's immigrant communities, or the family members of international students who wish to improve their English language ability.  For more information, go to the program website.

APA Style Resources

Written work for course taken at Teachers College must conform to different kinds of writing styles. Your course instructor will indicate that kind of writing style required by the course.  In most cases, however, students will be asked to write in according to American Psychological Association (APA) guidelines. You may purchase APA guidebooks at the TC Bookstore, or link to these on-line resources: Purdue University On-Line Writing Lab (OWL) APA Formatting and Style Guide
