Teachers College Technology Quick Start Guides
Welcome to TC! Follow these Quick Start Guides to get you started using TC technology.
Step 2 - Log into the myTC Portal
The myTC Portal is where you can access resources at TC such as:
- Course Registration
- Canvas TC’s Learning Management System
- Financial Aid status
- Bursar account info
- TCPortal walkthrough video
Step 3 - Access your TC Gmail
- All Official TC communication will be sent to you through your TC Gmail account.
- Access your TC Gmail in the top right corner of the MyTC Portal.
- Accept the Terms of Use to begin using your TCGmail.
Step 4 - Register for your Courses
- Before you can access Canvas at Teachers College, you will first need to register for at least one course.
Step 5 - Log into Canvas
- Canvas is TC’s Learning Management System (Canvas for Students, Canvas walkthrough video)
- Where all of your TC coursework will be managed.
- In the myTC Portal click the Canvas icon in the upper right corner.
Step 6 - Visit the Service Desk Portal
- TC Service Desk provides the TC community with technical support.
- Submit a Service Desk ticket to receive assistance.

Step 3 - Access your TC Gmail

- Access your TC Gmail in the top right corner of the MyTC Portal.

Step 4 - Set-up your RingCentral Phone
- RingCentral is the cloud-based phone system at Teachers College.
- Features include call auto-attendant, company directory, call forwarding and handling, multiple extensions, a mobile app for iPhone and Android, Business SMS, video conferencing and screen-sharing, and fax.
- Visit the TC Service Desk to reset your RingCentral Password.
Step 5 - Visit the Service Desk Portal
- TC Service Desk provides the TC community with technical support.
- Submit a Service Desk ticket to receive assistance.
- Submit a Service Desk ticket for assistance with setting up your DUO (Multifactor Authentification) account
- Submit a Service Desk ticket to reset your RingCentral Password

Connect to TC Wifi
There are three wireless networks based on user type.
-
TC-Guest (Guests at TC): This Wi-Fi connection will be available for all non-TC users. Upon connection to this network, guest users will be prompted for very basic information (name, email address).
- Eduroam (TC Faculty & Students): This Wi-Fi connection will be available for all TC students (Connection Information)
- TC-Secure (Faculty & Staff): Available for only TC faculty and professional staff (instructions for how to connect available in the myTC Portal for faculty and staff.)
Printing on Campus
GoPrint provides TC students with free and paid printing options. GoPrint allows students to redirect print jobs and check their balances.
- On the first day of each semester, $16 is added to each student’s Teachers College GoPrint Semester Allowance Purse. This allows students to print out 320 pages per semester. (Access GoPrint).
- Students have additional free pages available through Columbia University’s PawPrint and this service can be accessed at the Gottesman Libraries at TC or at designated areas on the Columbia University campus.
Computer Labs on Campus
There are two official computer labs on TC's Campus.
- Horace Mann 242 Computer lab.
- Monday - Thursday: 9:30 AM - 11:00 PM
- Friday: 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
- Saturday & Sunday: 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
- Macy 345 A&B - This is a computer classroom that is available to students when no classes or events are in session (The class schedule is posted outside of Macy 345).
Microsoft 365
- Available to all TC Students, Faculty, and Staff
- Can be downloaded from Columbia Universities Information Technology.
Protect your Online Identity
- Avoid opening suspicious email attachments and links sent in suspicious emails.
- Forward all suspicious emails to: servicedesk@tc.columbia.edu
- Download Antivirus software, Crowdstrike. This can be found in the myTC Portal under the Software and Tools tab.
