Helping singers take ownership of their voices – and often, of their identities – is the focus of the unique Vocal Workshops for teens, based at TC. “Teens need a lot of reinforcement,” says Workshops director Jeanne Goffi-Fynn, who recruits her graduate students to serve as mentors. “Even the best-intentioned kind of criticism can shut them down, especially when it comes to singing, because their voices are physically a part of them. So we’re all about positivity.” .
