In 1996, at the fourth recommendation to eliminate the Education Department at Dartmouth College in the past two decades, the department was allowed to remain pending the results of a formal review done this past winter. The committee of Dartmouth professors and others outside the college strongly endorsed the program.

TC Professor Nel Noddings said, "Education is so fundamental in a liberal democracy that it would be a real form of neglect for a liberal arts college to turn its back on that task."
