TC offers a wide range of state approved teacher education programs leading to initial or professional teacher certification, and school/district administrator certification in NY State. All programs blend graduate study and professional preparation, ensuring strong connections of theory with practice through extensive field experience and multiple opportunities for experiential learning informed by substantive engagement with education research and literature. Our programs are accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP), and have met the highest standards set by the profession.
Working Together
The vast network of schools that connect teacher education programs and P-12 schools allows teacher candidates, instructors, and staff to collaborate and further increase the benefits of the work already taking place in many schools.
Teachers College places over 400 student teachers each semester in schools across New York City (NYC) and the surrounding areas. Approximately 75 percent of student teaching placements are in NYC public schools. Students are also placed in private schools, charter schools, and non-NYC schools.
