Education Benefits


Teachers College

  • Maximum of 12 credits per academic year.
  • Max of 6 credits each for Fall and Spring Semesters.
  • No more than 3 credits in either summer term.
  • Refer to the CBA for information on the Flexible Clause.
  • Two courses may be taken as a non-degree student.

OR

Columbia University

  • Maximum of 9 per academic year, if enrolled in a degree-granting program.

Note:
After 5 years of service, spouse may receive the unused portion to the tuition benefit at TC only.
This benefit may be used for up to six (6) semesters for dissertation advisement at TC.

Teachers College

  • Maximum of 3 credits for each of the Fall and Spring semesters.

Columbia University

  • Maximum of 2 credits for each of the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • September 1 – August 31 cycle.
  • Three month waiting period for newly hired full time staff.
    • Eligibility begins after three months of service.
    • Benefit is prorated if employee begins before three month waiting period.
    • 5 year waiting period for spouse or dependent children.
  • No waiting period for part-time employees.
  • 5 year waiting period for new hires.
  • Student must be admitted and formally enrolled.
  • Graduate School: Full tuition at TC only.
  • Undergraduate: Maximum of 35% of the rate of Columbia College’s tuition towards the annual tuition (exclusive of fees) for children enrolled in an accredited four-year undergraduate program at any school (Maximum of 8 semesters).
  • Reimbursed based on the number of undergraduate credits required by the institution.

Current tax law requires employees to pay taxes on graduate tuition exemption benefits if it exceeds $5,250 per calendar year. The College will withhold taxes on such benefits during the calendar year in which it is used.

If the degree is related to your position at TC, the tuition tax can be waived. Proper documentation is required.

Paid Bi-Weekly

Fall*

Four (4) equal installments starting with the second pay period in October

Spring

Seven (7) equal installments starting with the second pay period in February

Summer

Five (5) to six (6) equal installments starting in June and ending in September
